If you need to work on your RV’s solar system, you may need to turn off your RV solar system. The following steps are the best practices for turning off your system:
1. Ensure that your RV is not connected to shore or generator power.
2. Turn the solar disconnect switch to “OFF”.
*If your solar array has a fuse as opposed to a disconnect switch, remove the fuse. If you’d like to purchase additional fuses, we typically use a 30A blade fuse for most solar arrays.
3. Turn off all large loads (A/C’s, heaters, microwaves, etc.).
4. Turn the inverter to “OFF”, using either the remote or the rocker switch on the inverter itself.
5. Turn the house battery disconnect switch to “OFF”.
That’s all it takes to turn off your RV solar system! When you’re ready to get it running again, simply follow the steps in reverse.
If you’re placing your RV in storage for a month or longer, you should drain your house battery bank to ~70% in order to maximize the longevity of your batteries. f you have a motor home, remember that your cranking battery is not tied to your lithium battery bank.
Keep in mind that some components (like the Victron SmartShunt and Lynx Shunt battery monitors) may need time to produce accurately synced data.
